The Nominating Committee for the Kansas Workers Compensation and Employment Security Board has selected a candidate for Administrative Law Judge.  According to The Wichita Eagle, they have chosen to nominate Julie Sample and will forward their recommendation to Labor Secretary Lana Gordon who can choose to accept or reject it.  If accepted, Ms. Sample will fill a vacancy left by Judge Brad Avery who was not retained by the committee in April.

Kansas has 10 administrative law judges.  The judges hear cases, issuing orders and decisions in workers compensation matters.

The Wichita Eagle report  addressed an issue of controversy surrounding the interview process, specifically that the interviews were held in a private closed session.  The vote, however, remained public and the committee was able to make their selection by a 5-2 vote.
